Two Staffies Who Sank Like Rocks
In 2010, our Staffie puppies Oscar & Saffron arrived — and that's when the search for dog life jackets began. Staffies are famously non-swimmers; in fact, they sink like rocks. We needed them to be safe around water at home, around the pool, at the beach, and at the dam.
We often took holidays in Clanwilliam at the dam, and needed them to be safe on the boat and at the water's edge. After all, they're our fur children — we never left them behind.
We also have a Golden Retriever named Emma in the family, and you simply can't keep a Golden Retriever out of the water. Oscar, especially, thought he was a Golden Retriever too — following Emma out to fetch the ball. I was forever jumping up and down at the water's edge trying to bring him back before he sank. Nerve-racking, and not at all relaxing. It was a nightmare.
From a UK Trip in 2013 to Thousands of Happy Dogs
I came across the Baltic dog life jacket while visiting the UK in 2013 and was thrilled — at last, we could keep our dogs safe. We bought the jackets and put them to the test that South African summer. We were completely relieved: we could finally be at the dam, at the beach, and have the cover off the pool, knowing our Staffies would be safe while wearing their jackets.
At the time, I couldn't find anything else like it available in South Africa, and I knew there had to be other fur parents who needed the same peace of mind. In 2014, I decided to start selling genuine Baltic Pluto dog life jackets for all dogs, from a Chihuahua to a Great Dane.
